Okay folks who is game for some work for a worthwhile cause???

Arturo has poured his hard work and labor (thanks Arturo) into building
this site and especially great is the "Films" area of the site where you
can easily search batch numbers. This area of the group is well worth
you getting familiar with.

I've just added some new films to the Villanueva area but there are
still many many areas of our Research area that need to have the Batch
numbers added. Why not consider taking one or maybe two hours per month
and volunteer to enter batch numbers to this area.

Here is how you can find batch numbers:

1) Look at the Fiche at your Family History Center and then take those
Batch numbers and confirm they are valid

or

here is how I do it:

1) go to the IGI (you can try this with the VRI also)

2) in the FirstNameLastName area put in Maria Garcia (or any other very
very comon name)

3) in the Event put in "Birth/Christening" (later you can put in Marriage)

4) in the Country put in Mexico and in the state pick either Jalisco,
Zacatecas or Aguascalientes

5) click on "Search"

if you are lucky you'll get 5000 hits so you

6) do a "page search" with your browsers "Find" function to look for the
specific Location you are trying to find or

7) if you are feeling generous just look at the first page for any
locations that are not already uploaded to the Film section

let me know if any of you want to try this as there is a bit more but
not too much.

thanks,

joseph

Add Batch Numbers to Film Area

Hello Joseph,

Could someone explain to me just what the purpose of this Film section
area is for? What does it contain that the library catalog does not?

Use of Films Section

The added value of the films section is the ability to search by location and date. By entering batch numbers in familysearch you are able to perform all sorts of interesting wildcard search functions, including simply listing everything that is on the batch. By clicking on the IGI or VRI button next to a film listing, it will automatically take you to the familysearch site and list everything on that batch. At that point you can simply refine the search down by last name, by entering a parent's name, etc. You can leave everything else as a blank or a wildcard.

The library catalog does not list batch numbers so having them available and then directly linked to the search function can be very helpful when doing searches.

There are a couple of postings about the use of wildcards. You can search for "wildcard" and you will find them

Joseph, I got confused when I found so many batch numbers for some films in Jerez Zacatecas, was I supposed to list each individually or is there a way to put them all on one?

Batch #

Just start entering them one at a time. Get your list of batch numbers
and start listing them exactly as you see them listed in the IGI making
sure to supply all the info given in Arturo's database.

thanks for your willingness to do this. Oh and if you have any of the
films on permanent hold list yourself in the database. If you see a film
already entered don't reenter it but you can edit it with your name as
well if you happen to own it. I think there is enough room there to add
another name (not sure).

joseph

ps: if you have any questions ask about this again.

Joseph...

...I think you meant to say "grazie" for "thank you" instead of "Hello" or
"Good Day".....:-) I will probably also get on this bandwagon after I am
back home in Texas and settled.....back into my routine! Let me get over my
jet lag first, ok?
Thanks!

Josie in Beautiful Switzerland......
