Hello all!

I have just recently (last 6 months) started looking into my family history. All four of my grandparents came to the US from Mexico between 1916 and 1922.

My father's paternal line is from Jalisco, mostly Lagos de Moreno and Etzatlan. I've hit a wall on his maternal side. I can't get beyond his mother's parents.

My mother's family is from Zacatecas. Her maternal line has roots in Sombrerete. But on her paternal line, I can't get beyond her grandparents.

I have subscribed to Ancestry, which has helped in addition to Family Search. Are there digital archives from these states/cities in Mexico that we can access? Would appreciate any tips.

Thanks!

Macedonia baptism record....

and I think this is Macedonia Rivas baptism record..... but I'm trying to find some other cross-reference before I link it.  You can see grandparents here also.

Francisco Arroniz and Macedonia Rivas

Thank you so much!  I did find the birth record indicating Maria Luisa's parents were not married. Now to find Macedonia's baptism record with her parents and grandparents opens up so many doors to explore. Thank you again!

I think this is Macedonia Rivas' baptism record -

I think that here mother's surname is Ramires.....so her name would be Macedonia Rivas Ramirez.....

I am not absolutely sure so I have not linked Maria Luisa Rivas/Arroniz.....  if you are confident then I can tie them all together....

there is already quite a tree created if you want to look:

I filled out a bunch of your family tree.....

go check it and see if I screwed anything up.   I cannot find a direct link to Francisco Arroniz parents?   Also he is named as "Jesus Arones" in the death certificate for Maria Luisa Pulido/Arronize/nee Rivas.  Anyway...take a peek and either fix what you find or tell me what I messed up so I can fix it.   https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/GLN8-LV6

At first glance the tree…

At first glance the tree looks good.  And I really appreciate your finding Maria Luisa's death certificate. I hadn't been able to find it which I found strange considering she died in Los Angeles. Also, we never knew for sure which type of cancer she had and now we see it was ovarian.  Her father is still a mystery. Another person on Nuestros Ranchos told me Arroniz was not a common name in Jalisco/Ameca. So not even sure where he was born. Thanks again for your help.

Now I am wondering if Jesus was the real father???

.....and Francisco was just the guy that brought the child in to report the birth?  Cannot find any info on Francisco so maybe he made up a name?  Should probably look for a Jesus Arronis/Arroniz (Jesus Arones on death registration) in Ameca or nearby areas.....

Have no idea where the name…

Have no idea where the name Jesus came from. The few places her father's name is listed it's always Francisco.

But I did find a marriage record for Francisco Arroniz in D.F., Tacuba in 1922. It says he's 45 which squares with his being 21 when Maria Luisa was born. It lists his parents as Salvador Arroniz and Julia Yanez, originally from Ameca, Jalisco. So far I haven't been able to find any record connecting them with Francisco besides the marriage record. But I'll keep digging.

I think this is her death…

I think this is her death registration but I"m still following up on other cross-references.   https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9PK2-6DR?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQG72-4G2W&action=view

I found Maria Luisa RIVAS birth record....

She was an "hija natural" so there you are.  Birth was reported by Francisco Arroniz, reportedly "soltero" (single), and the father is reported as "no conocido" (unknown father--I'm staring squinty-eyed at this commend since Francisco presented the child).  The child was therefore given the Mothers surname.  She was born in 1895 not 1899

Anyway...see below and while I was at it added more references to your trees.

Francisco Arroniz and Macedonia Rivas

Thanks for your help, Rick. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any birth or baptismal record for my grandmother, Maria Luisa.

I did find a death record for Macedonia Rivas in Ameca. It lists her as single, not widowed. She would have been around 39 when she had my grandmother in 1898.

And I found a Francisco Arroniz in Ameca who had a large family with his wife, Elena. He would have been 40 when my grandmother was born. So it's a definite possibility that these two are my great grandparents, but who knows. I'll keep searching in the meantime.

Findings on Macedonia and Francisco

Those two records that you found on Francisco and Macedonia are the very same ones that I found.   I do believe that they are your ancestors.  Let me know if you find other threads or clues.

Good luck in your research,

Rick A. Ricci

Hello Monica,

I have a possible reason as why you are stuck on your fathers maternal grandparents.   It seems that they weren’t married to each other.  A person with her name is listed on her death record as being single, and a person with his name is recorded with a wife with a different name.    His name is not a common one in Jalisco, and especially in Ameca.   I can trace both of these individuals ancestry back but before that is done it should be confirmed that these are the same people as your dads maternal grandparents.   That can be done by getting your maternal grandmother’s birth record or baptismal record and searching for clues, threads, in those records.
